La Mega Drive (Genesis aux US - メガドライブ au Japon) est une console de quatrième génération développée et distribuée par SEGA au Japon à compter d'octobre 1988, août 1989 aux Etats Unis et septembre 1990 en Europe. Elle fut la première véritable console 16 bits du marché et a donné un véritable tournant dans la carrière de constructeur de SEGA. Connue pour être la machine qui a eu le plus de succès auprès du public, c'est toujours celle-ci qui est mise en avant même de nos jours par SEGA.

Sa ludothèque est composée de nombreux jeux issus de l'arcade (Action, Plateforme, Shoot'em'up) mais possède également des suites de licences connues de la Master System ainsi que de nombreuses nouvelles licences fortes. Du côté "collection", les jeux sont sortis uniquement au format cartouche (2 formats différents entre le Japon et l'Occident du moins pour les jeux édités par SEGA).
